This probably sounds like a stupid question. But I was wondering, as a referee do you talk to the players throughout the game? I.E As two players are tussling "Hands down" or "NO foul". If you do, are you still able to do this in a loud stadium? Or do you have to change the way you referee?

All the time it is one of my strengths. I work hard with the players and put a lot of effort into communication.

Chris I am a referee in New Zealand; I have often had discussions with colleagues over the throw in. The law states the ball must travel from behind and over the head, it doesnt state where it can be let go from. If a player thows towards his feet most would say its a foul throw, but where does it say in the rules,or interpretations?

In Law 15 the throw in states that a player should deliver the ball from behind and over the head. Delivered means released. Don’t make the decision too hard for yourself.

Hi Chris, There have been many instances where a referee's decisions have, rightly or wrongly, led to a debate about whether referees should explain certain decisions after a game, such as October 2007's Merseyside derby. What are your opinions on the matter? Do you feel this would put further pressure on the modern day official or help establish a more 'in-touch' persona?

We at the top level of refereeing have media training and are allowed to do interviews to explain aspects of law. An interview after every match would sometimes be a witch hunt as I am sure some people would look for scapegoats.

What has been the highlight of your season? And Why

The Carling Cup Final. Manchester United v Tottenham Hotspur last season because it was a major final played at Wembley.
