hi Phil what has been you hardest select list game so far and why?

Would have to be Liverpool against Everton because of the pressure before the game, the atmosphere and the rivalry between the two clubs. Concentration and physical performance was immense and I was totally shattered after the game in both departments.

Have you ever refeeed a match which you just wish would just finish either because you were not having a good day or because of the attitude of the players?

I have got to admit earlier in my career the players would not listen, I wasn’t winning any plaudits and I wished I stayed in bed. I think we all have had a game like that in our earlier career but I can honestly say that was in my early days and now I just enjoy my refereeing and every game I wish I could carry on.

Even when it is very cold and wet I have hardly noticed any referees wearing long sleeved shirts (except Mike Riley). Why are they hardly used?

With me I have always worn short sleeves, I feel restricted in long sleeves and I guess it is the same for a lot of the other guys, Mike loves his long sleeves but it is just a matter of choice and being comfortable.

Phil can you offer any advice on managing club official and/or spectators obviously at grassroot level when you are officiatingon your own. Removing the manager for instance can be nightmare to enforce, whilst trying to concentrate what is happening on the field of play also

We have all gone through problems and I still see them at local level now, the only advice I can offer is do your job on the day and do not confront these so called people who spoil the game. If you dismiss the manager and he refuses to leave report to the league and your FA; the same with spectators.
