I'm taking the referee course. What do I need to be aware of when refereeing my first game?

It is important to enjoy the match and bring your own personality into the game. Good luck!

If there was an obstruction in the penalty box would you give a penalty or a indirect free-kick, plus if the goalkeeper was off his line when the penalty is being taken would you have it retaken if he saved it?

If there is obstruction in the penalty area then it would be a Indirect Free Kick but if there was contact in the process of a player trying to obstruct another player then it would be a penalty kick. If the keeper comes off his line before the penalty kick then it must be re- taken if the penalty is missed.

What is the most exciting game you have ever refereed? I don't mean in terms of goals, although it could be a nine-goal thriller, but in terms of good football.

I would have to say Luton Town v Liverpool in the FA Cup some four seasons ago as it was one of the best matches for football reasons to be involved in with Liverpool eventually winning 5-3 after being 3-1 down.

Now you’re a FIFA referee does that mean you would get a lot more high profile games?

I have been a FIFA referee now for four seasons to which it’s a honor to represent my country abroad. It doesn’t always mean that because you are a FIFA referee you get the best games. The matches are appointed on form and availability.
