Appointed to the Select Group Referees list in 2001. Appointed as FA Cup Final 4th Official 2006, the last FA Cup Final at the Millennium.

matthew jarvis, England

what has been your most diffcult game you have refed

Each game comes with its own degree of difficulty but looking back I would have to say that some of the most challenging games would have stemmed from my early years on the Southern League.

Hi Lee, i am a student at Manchester Metropolitan university and am looking for proffesional referees to take part in my research project, it only requires a few minutes of time to fill out a questionnaire. Firstly would you be willing to take part and secondly how would i go about contacting other proffesional referees? Thanks, Luke

Can I suggest you contact the PGMOL with details of your project, I am sure they would be willing to pass on your questionnaire for others to participate. The address is 30, Gloucester place, London.

Ryan Hibbard, England

What is process that a select group referee has to go through to be considered for inclusion on the FIFA list of referees? and who are the to be the new FIFA referees in 2009?

The full criteria of a nomination is nearly 4 pages long, so briefly the candidate needs to be at least 25 years of age and under the age of 45,you have to be refereeing on your highest league in your country; The Premier League, you also have to be able to pass the FIFA fitness test. The nominations for the 09 season will be announced in January.

Ryan Hibbard, England

I noticed that when you were a football league referee you used to have a high ratio of yellow and red cards. However since your promotion this number has been greatly reduced. The same is true of Steve Tanner and Keith Stroud. Is this something you as a group are working on or do the "powers that be" have a quiet word?

I can’t answer for Keith Stroud or Steve Tanner, however I can only put this down to the experience I have gained from past performances and the ongoing guidance from colleagues within the group. Player management is a fundamental skill required to control the modern day game but if warranted a red or yellow card should be issued accordingly
