Peter Walton

Referee: Peter Walton

Appointed to National Referees list in 1998 and to the Select Group Referees list in 2003.

Week 1

Phil Clayton, England

I was just wondering your opinion on a 25 year old referee in the Select Group after only one year on the National List?

This question has been answered by Keith Stroud.

Sandip Vyas, England

What is your working footwear for those cold rainy days on natural pitches? I officiate in Portland/Oregon in the USA, and the weather has been kind of grim.

I prefer to wear Nike 'Ronaldinho' moulded boots. I find them very light and comfortable. The leather is waterproof and very pliable and they are predominantly black. I don't like too much colour on my boots.

Matthew Campbell, England

Who are you're favourite assistant referees to work with and who are your particular friends in the refereeing world?

Where at all possible we work together as teams of officials. The rational behind this is that the officials feel comfortable with one another and that they understand tolerance levels and styles of officiating. I have a number of Assistants that I work with on a regular basis and feel as equally comfortable with them all. As a small group of referees we all tend to get on with each other very well, however Barry Knight has been my room mate for a number of years and I suppose we talk to each other in a very personal manner. Howard Webb was promoted onto the select list at the same time as myself and we have remained very close ever since.

Bryan Campbell, Scotland

What happens if a player throws the ball at the referee from a throw-in to re-start a game and then kicks it?

If when taking a throw in the ball strikes the referee and returns to the thrower, who then plays it for a second time the referee would award an indirect free kick. The thrower cannot play it a second time unless it is touched or played by a player of either team.
