PROFESSIONAL GAME MATCH OFFICIALS LIMITED Guide to Marking REFEREES for Assessors - Season 2007/2008

 

90 - 100 Outstanding Performance in "very challenging" match  

 

• A performance that is exceptional and rarely seen in a match classified as "very challenging".

 

• Standard of control & law application must be of the highest order with all key match incidents judged correctly. 

 

• Disciplinary control must be consistent, credible and wholly correct.

 

• All technical supporting competencies, including advantage application, teamwork, work rate and positioning must be of the highest quality.

 

• No corrective advice or areas for improvement will be included in a report reflecting this level of performance.

 

80 - 89 Outstanding Performance in "challenging" match  

 

• A performance that is exceptional and rarely seen, exactly as above, in a match classified as "challenging."

 

 

 

70 - 79 Highly Commendable Performance  

 

• A performance that is highly commendable and achieves a very high standard.

 

• Standard of Control and law application must be above analysis with all key match incidents judged correctly.

 

• Disciplinary control must be consistent and credible. All supporting competencies must be of a high quality and well above the expected average performance for referees at this level.

 

• No corrective advice on match control or law application will be required but very minor decision making accuracy might be examined or very minor technical advice may be offered.

 

60 - 69 Standard Plus Highly Efficient Performance           

 

 • A performance expected of referees at this level.

 

• Appropriate for all categories of match, the expected standard of control and law application is consistent and credible.

 

• In all matches, all key match incidents must be judged correctly.

 

• Player management, disciplinary control and other technical competencies should be of the expected standard.

 

• Minor advice on law application may be required or minor decision making accuracy might be questioned or minor technical advice may be offered.

 

50 - 59 Standard Efficient Performance 

 

 • A standard performance which falls below the expectations at this level.

 

• Appropriate for all categories of match, the standard of control and law application should be credible.

 

• A referee who has performed well overall but who has made a key error (or errors).

 

• Player management, disciplinary control and other technical competencies should be of a good standard but some advice and/or area(s) for improvement will be included in the report.

 

40 - 49 Below Standard Disappointing Performance  

 

• A performance that is below the expected standard at this level.

 

• This may be as a result of errors on key match incidents or where law application and/or control require corrective action for the future.

 

• It may also be a reflection of other technical competencies generally not matching the standard expected. • Clear advice and/or areas for improvement will be required in the report.

 

30 - 39 Poor and Unacceptable Performance 

 

 • A performance that is significantly below the expected standard at this level

 

 • There will definitely be errors in accuracy of decision-making with inconsistent law application.

 

• Control or level of involvement may not have matched the temperature of the game and there may be significant technical deficiencies that require utmost attention for the future.

 

• Key errors that have weakened performance credibility. 

 

• This performance will require clear, strong and forthright advice.

• A performance that is exceptional and rarely seen in a match classified as "very challenging".

 

• All offside judgments correctly interpreted and signaled appropriately.

 

• Any key indications must be correct.

 

• Awareness and support is of the highest standard.

 

• Excellent mobility, including sprinting ability, to ensure correct positioning at all times

 

• All signals given with confidence and assurance.

 

• Player management of the highest order.

 

• Seamless team working throughout.

 

• Definitely no errors identified or area(s) for improvement in this performance.

 

80 - 89 Outstanding Performance in "challenging" match  

 

• A performance that is exceptional and rarely seen, exactly as above, in a match classified as "challenging"

 

70 - 79 Highly Commendable Performance  

 

• A performance that is highly commendable and achieves a very high standard

 

• All offside judgments correctly interpreted and signaled appropriately.

 

• Any key indications must be correct.

 

• High standard of support and assistance to the referee, well above the expected level. All other competencies expected to be of the same high standard.

 

• No corrective advice will be required but a degree of technical advice may occasionally be appropriate in the report.

 

60 - 69 Standard Plus Highly Efficient Performance            

 

• A performance expected of assistant referees at this level.

 

• Appropriate for all categories of match, the expected standard for offside judgments is consistent and credible.

 

• All key match incidents must be judged correctly and an appropriate level of support given to the referee throughout.

 

• Minor corrective advice on technical competency may be necessary and very minor errors may be identified in the report.

 

50 - 59 Standard Efficient Performance  

 

• A standard performance which falls below the expectations at this level

 

• Appropriate for all categories of match, the expected standard for offside judgments is credible.

 

• An assistant referee who has performed well overall but who has made a key error (or errors)

 

• Other technical competencies must be at least of the expected standard but some advice on accuracy of judgments and/or areas for improvement will be identified in the report.

 

40 - 49 Below Standard Disappointing Performance  

 

• A performance that is below the expected standard at this level.

 

• This may be as a result of errors on key match incidents

 

• It may be that interpretation of offside situations is not consistent, correct or credible.

 

• Other technical competencies are not up to the expected standard at this level and require significant advice in the report. • Significant advice or comment will be necessary in the report

 

30 - 39 Poor and Unacceptable Performance  

 

• An unsatisfactory performance as a result of serious errors of judgment, particularly in relation to key match incidents.

 

• A poor level of support for the referee and/or significant deficiencies in other competencies that weaken performance.

 

• Clear, strong and forthright advice will be required in the report.
