U17 WORLD CUP BLOG - PART 7
HOWARD WEBB, DARREN CANN AND MIKE MULLARKEY PROVIDE THEIR LATEST UPDATE FROM NIGERIA
The Select Group trio of Howard Webb, Darren Cann and Mike Mullarkey are back with their latest round-up of events at the FIFA Under-17 World Cup.
Here is their latest update from a still now very warm Nigeria:
We have been here for nearly three weeks now and are entering the business end of the tournament.
We are delighted to be able to report that we have been appointed to referee a quarter-final match, the hosts Nigeria versus Korea in Calabar, south of Abuja on Monday with kick-off at 7pm local time (6pm GMT).
This is our second visit to Calabar, having done our third match, Gambia versus Columbia, there last weekend. The pitch is natural grass and isn't of particularly good quality, however the atmosphere in the small stadium should be electric. The locals really have rallied behind their team and they have a good following for every match.
The stadium only holds around 10,000 people but officials are estimating that nearer 25,000 will hope to see the game. It should be an exciting match and we are thrilled to have been appointed to it.
Hopefully you will be able to catch it on Eurosport and we will let you know how things go.
Howard, Darren and Mike
