SELECT GROUP REFEREES DEMONSTRATE THEIR FITNESS

Analysis of 2007/08 season underpins the fitness performance of match officials

The recent analysis provided to the PGMOL by ProZone underpins the fitness performance of match officials who performed in the Premier League.

The average total distance covered by Select Group Referees of 11561 (m)  is in  line with the average distance covered by Premier League players of 11593(m).

One of the important statistics is the increased ability of Match Officials to produce explosive sprints which enables them to be in close proximity of play with the requirement of obtaining the ideal viewing angle.

"The Select Group Referees have in the last season doubled the average number of sprints that they produce in the game," commented PGMOL General Manager Keith Hackett. "We would like to thank Matt Weston, our Head of Sports Science, for the changes he has made to training patterns in order to achieve this positive end result."
