Welcome to the official website of the Professional Game Match Officials.
The Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL) was formed to provide match officials for all professional football matches played in England and they are tasked with the responsibility of developing excellence in officiating in the English game at the Professional Level.
This website has been launched with the view of bringing fans of the beautiful game closer to the men in the middle. It has been developed to provide information to everyone; from supporters to managers, referees to the players themselves - at all levels of the game. It is hoped that you will leave this site with the answers to any questions you had before you visited and with an improved knowledge of what goes on behind the scenes to make things happen come 3pm on a Saturday afternoon, up and down the country.
For example, did you know top-flight referees are continually monitored at games and attend fortnightly meetings in which, amongst other matters, their performances, via the use of ProZone, are evaluated? That is just one example of the information available on refworld.com.

As well as the latest news, including details of official appointments and the verdicts of the professionals brought swiftly to you when it matters, the site features profiles of all referees, explains the roles of match assessors and provides detailed directives and the full written Laws of the Game.
You can read about the latest training techniques, read the annual report and flick through the FAQ's for information you didn't know, you didn't know. If you still have a burning desire to find something out you have not yet managed you can 'Ask the Ref' as we put a different match official under the spotlight each week.
In the Features section you can find out about referee selection and the technology they use. You can read about a Day in the Life of a top flight official and find out how to become a referee. You can understand more about the role of assistant referees and the fourth official and test your knowledge with the Law of the Week.
