ATTWELL AIMING HIGH

Stuart Attwell is planning to utilise the experience of his collegues to develop his career

At just 25 Stuart Attwell became the youngest referee in the Premier League, when he took charge of Blackburn Rovers game with Hull City on August 23rd and he’s relishing the opportunity he’s been given:

“It’s a great honour to be involved with the select group, I think for me it marks a really big stage in my career and in my development as a referee.

The fact that I am the youngest person on the select group is something that I am obviously aware of but it also proves I have got opportunities to learn, develop and improve my skills as a referee and really just move forward from this point.”

Although the spotlight and pressure may be on him Stuart is keeping his feet firmly on the ground:

“To be honest I don’t think it is going to be a barrier for me, I think it is there as an opportunity for me and something I can use to benefit from and progress with my refereeing from this point.

“Potentially I have got a lot of refereeing left in me, there are some really experienced referees in the Select Group at the moment and I think that the best thing I can do now is work with the experienced referees and learn from them.

“They have obviously got the benefit of having been Select Group Officials for a number of years and if I can pick up little tips and hints from them that improve my game, as a referee, then it’s only going to be of benefit me.”
