ENGLISH TRIO HANDED SECOND EURO GAME

Group D match to be refereed by Howard Webb

Howard Webb, along with Assistant Referees Darren Cann and Mike Mullarkey, will take control of Greece's final group match with Spain on Wednesday.

The match takes place at Stadion Wals-Siezenheim in Salzburg and they will be assisted by Austrian fourth official Markus Mayr.

Reflecting on the news Webb commented: “This morning we were informed about the final set of six appointments in the group stages of the tournament. I am delighted to have been appointed to referee the Greece v Spain game.

“It will hopefully turn out to be a good match, with Greece keen not to lose all their three group matches whilst Spain will want to go into the quarter-finals on the back of a good performance. We fly out to Salzburg on Tuesday afternoon and will return to our Zurich base on Friday."

With plenty happening around the two host countries the English trio are certainly not short of things to do between matches and once their press and training commitments are out of the way, they have been using their spare time to savour the flavour of the tournament.

“We had a fantastic day yeterday at the Fan Zone in Zurich - we watched Spain v Sweden on a massive screen which was located in Zurich Lake," Webb explained. "The atmosphere was great and it's a big pity England didn't qualify as the mood around the place is excellent and there is a lot of excitement amongst the fans.

“This afternoon I did a press-conference which all the referees are expected to do - it was quite a nerve-wracking experience and obviously some questions were asked about our match in Vienna and the reaction to the penalty from some of the Polish people.”
