Appointed to Select Group Referees list in 2001, his first game, Bolton Wanderers v Charlton Athletic. Referee of the 2007 FA Trophy Final.
How did you get introduced into refereeing?
Got into refereeing after a poor performance from a referee who was officiating one of our matches
What has been the highlight of your career so far?
Being promoted to the Premier league list in 2000 being one of the 24 professional referees in the country
What is the best game you have officiated and why?
The best game was the FA Trophy at the new Wembley the first competitive match held on that ground
What are your aims as a Select Group Referee?
To stay healthy and referee as many games as possible throughout the remainder of my career, with more appearances at Wembley
What skills do you think you need to become a professional referee?
A good positive attitude, a willingness to listen and learn and a few years refereeing the big games on the football league.
Who has been the biggest influence in your career and why?
My dad he accompanied me in the early years and still rings me before and after matches. Also Dave Allison who has just been appointed as referee manager for the Football League, He was my coach and did a great job
In your opinion who is/was the best referee?
Howard Webb and Mark Clattenburg both have great futures. George Courtney 2 world cups and a top ref.
