Assistant Referee David Buck
Location: Kent
How did you get introduced into refereeing?
I was introduced to refereeing when I was 14 - the club I played for asked us if we wanted to take a course.
What has been the highlight of your career so far?
Promotion to the Football League and my first ever Championship game at Ipswich.
What is the best game you have officiated and why?
As a Referee - I refereed a Southern League Play-Off semi-final between Merthyr Tydfil and Hednesford Town. The game was excellent and was a high scoring draw settled on penalties. The reaction from the game that I received from everybody made me proud to have been involved.
What are your aims as a National List Assistant Referee?
To officiate on a FA competition final - also promotion to the Premier league would be a good aim.
What skills do you think you need to become an Assistant Referee?
Fitness, courage and a thick skin!
Who has been the biggest influence in your career and why?
I would say Tom Metcalfe, my branch Chairman who gave me excellent advice when I started out. Also, Ken Roostan who encouraged me to referee when my playing career was going nowhere.
In your opinion who is/was the best Assistant Referee?
This is difficult as there are too many to name!
