How did you get introduced into refereeing?

My dad introduced me to refereeing as he officiated on the local parks and I went along as his linesman (as it was in those days). So from the age of 10 I’ve been on a pitch somewhere at 3pm on a Saturday – it’s in the blood.

Skills required are to stay calm, be observant and supportive, listen to advice offered, and keep the mind and body fit.

Who has been the biggest influence in your career and why?

My biggest influence has been my wife Debbie as she has provided me with support off the field and never made me feel guilty about the time that my officiating takes up.

In your opinion who is/was the best Assistant Referee?

The best Assistant Referee for me is Dave Bryan, what a smashing fellow, his style and attitude has never changed in all the time I’ve known him.
