Assistant Referee Peter Wright
Location: Lancashire
How did you get introduced into refereeing?
Around the age of 15 it became clear that I wasn't going to be a professional footballer, so I decided to take up refereeing in the hope that I would be involved in football at the highest level. Once I started I found out there were plenty of people willing to help me try to fulfil that ambition.
What has been the highlight of your career so far?
My career has been a relatively short one but full of highlights so far. Promotion to the National List was a great honour.
What is the best game you have officiated and why?
I have been involved in lots of exciting games at different levels. I enjoy games that are challenging and competitive. The game I will always remember will be my debut on the Football League - Bradford v Rochdale.
What are your aims as a National List Assistant Referee?
To continue to improve with the ambition of reaching the Select Group.
What skills do you think you need to become an Assistant Referee?
I think fitness and concentration are the two basic skills. Other aspects such as teamwork and judging involvement come from experience and thorough self evaluation.
Who has been the biggest influence in your career and why?
I try to glean advice from anyone more experienced than myself, but undoubtedly my largest influences have been the two coaches I have had, George Cain and Eddie Wolstenholme.
In your opinion who is/was the best Assistant Referee?
Any Assistant who positively contributes to the Referee's control and the fair playing of a game has done their job well.
