SG Asst Referee Ron Ganfield

Ron was promoted to the Select Group of Assistant Referees in 2007 and was appointed as an Assistant Referee in the 2007 FA Challenge Vase Final

How did you get introduced into refereeing? 

When I stopped playing after Twenty years I wanted to stay involved in the game so I decided to take up Refereeing and I have enjoyed every minute.

What has been the highlight of your career so far?
 

The highlight of my career so far was officiating as an Assistant Referee in the F.A. Vase Final 2006/7 and the same season being promoted to the select Group of Assistant Referees.

What is the best game you have officiated and why?

The best game for me so far was Reading v Everton because this was my first Premiership game and I had the privilege of working with Steve Bennett. Top Referee

What are your aims as a Select Group Assistant Referee?

My aims as a select group match official are to be consistent in my decision making, earn the respect of my colleagues as a top quality match official and to stay at the top for as long as i can.

What skills do you think you need to become a Select Group Assistant Referee?

Skills needed to be a Select Group match official in my opinion are as follows, concentration, fitness, good communicator, work well within a team, decision making and to be able to adapt to be on the same wave length as the match Referee on that day

Who has been the biggest influence in your career and why? 

The biggest influence on my career has been my family, because they are always there to support me, especially my wife Jo.

In your opinion who is/was the best Assistant Referee? 

In my opinion all the Assistants on the select group are top quality and I have the up most respect for all of them.
