Select Group Mark Halsey

Former Non-League goalkeeper commenced refereeing in 1989. Joined the Select Group Referees list on its formation in 2001. Appointed to the FIFA International Referees list in 2000 and was appointed as 4th Official in the 2002 FA Cup Final.

How did you get introduced into refereeing?
 
Played semi professional football till the age of 31, and then took up refereeing.
 
What has been the highlight of your career so far?
 
The highlight of my career so far as been refereeing at the old Wembley the play off final between Man City v Gillingham and also refereeing the 1st community shield at the new Wembley.
 
What is the best game you have officiated and why?
 
Best game officiated most recent game Portsmouth V Reading as it was a 11 goal thriller.
 
What are your aims as a Select Group Referee?
 
My main aim is to enjoy every game I do
 
What skills do you think you need to become a professional referee?
 
You have to have natural ability and understanding of how to manage people.
 
Who has been the biggest influence in your career and why?
 
No body has influenced my career I have just been my self and not copied anybody.

 

In your opinion who is/was the best referee?

In my opinion I don't watch and rate other referees I just love football. Its all about the game of football not referees.
